Accuracy of Heights from Ordnance Survey Maps

ثبت نشده
چکیده

1) Spot heights at summits have an accuracy of about ±3.3m at all map scales, in agreement with the published figure. 2) Levelled heights from old 6-inch maps can be a few metres below the summit but are unlikely to be more than a few tenths of a metre higher. 3) The accuracy of old and new 1:50k maps is similar, but where heights have changed the old height has a tendency to be too low. 4) Spot heights at cols have an expected error range of –3.0 to +4.2m (height tends to be overestimated). 5) Interpolated col heights in the DoBIH have an expected error range of –5.2 to +6.6m. 6) About 0.5% of summit heights on current maps are extreme values that are unlikely to arise from normal measurement error. 7) Errors of up to 0.31m were found in 21 flush bracket heights.

Geological noise removal in geophysical magnetic survey to detect unexploded ordnance based on image filtering

This paper describes the application of three straightforward image-based filtering methods to remove the geological noise effect which masks unexploded ordnances (UXOs) magnetic signals in geophysical surveys. Three image filters comprising of mean, median and Wiener are used to enhance the location of probable UXOs when they are embedded in a dominant background geological noise. The study ar...

CollabMap: Augmenting Maps Using the Wisdom of Crowds

Introduction The creation of high fidelity scenarios for disaster simulation is a major challenge for a number of reasons. First, the maps supplied by existing map providers (e.g., Ordnance Survey,1 TeleAtlas) tend to provide only road or building shapes and do not accurately model open spaces which people use to evacuate buildings, homes, or industrial facilities (e.g. the space around a stadi...

Maps beyond Diagrams: Real-World Spatial Orientation

Cognitive models of orientation using aerial-view 2D diagrams such as maps could help us to predict where their contents and design help, or hinder, cognitive processes, resulting in more usable map designs for situations where orientation is a common problem. However, the complex realities of geographic space, and the large scale transformations required with maps, make it less easy to model e...

Investigation of the effects and evidence of late Quaternary glaciers on the Binaloud Heights

The purpose of this study was to identify evidence of late Quaternary glaciers in the northern highlands of Binalood. Topographic maps, satellite imagery and climatic data are the tools and data used in this study. Arc gis 10.4 software was used for data analysis. Quaternary glacier evidences were identified based on four types of evidences including morphic indices, climatic evidences, geomorp...
